As the world practices social distancing, sometimes vehicles do not. Accidents are still occurring, and we are always here to help you after an accident.
Below are some recommendations on how to navigate the scene of an accident contactless.
Distance Yourself
Traditionally after an accident, you would discuss the accident with the other drivers and exchange information. During COVID-19 keeping the suggested six feet for a safe social distance, you need to approach the situation with additional caution. When taking down the other parties’ insurance and driver license information, ask them to set it down and take a few steps back to keep six feet distance between you.
Protect Yourself
If you have a mask, gloves, and/or sanitizer use them when conversing with other parties at the scene. Many drivers have begun to keep masks, gloves, and hand sanitizer readily available within their vehicle. Contactless
Try to keep things as contactless as possible. Rather than exchanging written information, take photos. With the help of technology and smartphones, taking photos is easier than ever. Not only does a photo capture the scene it also helps with storage. Be sure to take photos of:
- The scene of the accident
- The vehicles as they impacted
- Damage sustained to the vehicles
- Driver licenses of all drivers and passengers
- Insurance cards
Seek Medical Attention
Do not delay medical care after an accident. For critical injuries, seek emergency card. For non-urgent injuries consult with your doctor or a provider who specializes in injuries. In Florida, we have a 14-day limit for Personal Injury Protection (PIP) benefits. Be sure to let your provider know the date of your accident when you call for an appointment.
